PTO Committee Descriptions

Art to Remember

The children will create an original drawing in art class. In the fall and spring, the committee will coordinate with the art teacher to submit the drawings to a designated company. A variety of products with the child’s artwork on them are available for the parents to order. This committee will be responsible for facilitating the sale and distributing the products to the families.

Holiday Books

This committee is responsible for purchasing books in conjunction with our semi-annual Book Fairs. These books are then made available for each child to receive a book from the PTO in December.

Book Fair

The PTO twice per year hosts the Scholastic Book Fair, which provides an opportunity for students and teachers to purchase books for their personal libraries. The committee members are responsible to coordinate with Scholastic for the fair. Committee members setup and dismantle the book displays sent by Scholastic, fill orders, run cash registers, and find volunteers to assist with the event.

Box Tops for Education

Box Top labels are collected from the students each month and sent in to Box Tops for Education twice a year. The PTO receives 10¢ for each Box Top submitted which helps fund many of our programs.

Buzz Book

The Buzz Book Committee coordinates all the information submitted by the parents and creates a directory containing the names, addresses and phone number of the Salt Creek students.

Cultural Arts

The Cultural Arts Committee’s purpose is to provide supplemental exposure to educational programming for all Salt Creek students. The committee works with the Assistant Principal and is responsible for researching and booking appropriate programs for special assemblies at the school. They will also coordinate payment with the PTO Treasurer.

Dine ‘n Share

Dine ‘n Share is a program in which various local restaurants offer a share of profits on designated days throughout the school year. This committee is responsible for making arrangements with the restaurants, advertising the program and acting as liaison between the restaurants and the school.

Explore More

Explore More is an afternoon event at the end of the school year, that gives all students an opportunity to participate in three workshops presented by parents, teachers, professionals and community members. These workshops include crafts, sports, hobbies, and professions. This committee will be responsible for arranging the workshops, organize assigning kids to classes, advertising the event and coordinating volunteers.

Fall Family Night

In the fall, this committee plans an evening event that will be free for our Salt Creek families. Previous Fall Family Night themes have been a Movie Night and a Bingo Luau. The committee will plan the event and coordinate the volunteers.

Fall/Spring Fundraisers

The PTO offers two fundraisers during the year.  This committee will be responsible for facilitating the sale and distributing the products to the families, if necessary.

Fifth Grade Party and Shirts

Each year a committee of parents helps to plan and organize a class celebration as well as a class gift from the graduating 5th graders. This committee plans fundraisers to offset the class celebration and they also design t-shirts that each student in the 5th grade will receive as a gift from the PTO.

Fun Fair

Fun Fair is a carnival type event that is held in the spring, using a company to supply the games, rides and prizes. This committee will be responsible for planning and coordinating the event with the outside vendors and volunteers to sell tickets and food and run the activities.

Gift Cards (SCRIP)

A fundraiser selling a variety of gift cards is held at the end of fall, early winter and in the spring. The Gift Card Committee coordinates the sale and distribution of the gift cards with the vendor. A percentage of the sales will be donated to the Salt Creek PTO.

Grant Writing

There are times when the PTO or the school may need financial assistance through grants. This committee will work with the requesting party to identify and write grants for school projects or purchases. Copies of grants previously applied for are available to this committee for review.

Jumpstart

At the beginning of each year the PTO asks each family to contribute $5.00 to the Jump Start Fund. The money is collected by the Jumpstart committee and submitted to the PTO Treasurer for deposit.

Patrol Appreciation Party

This committee plans a lunch for the Patrol & Lunch Leaders at the end of the school year.

Picture Day

During this day they will help organize the students and collect payments. They also may be asked to help distribute pictures to classrooms when they arrive.

Room Parents

The Room Parents Committee work directly with room parent volunteers and distributes the classroom funds collected. Also the Room Parents Committee coordinates Field Day events with the Salt Creek staff and volunteers.

School Store

The first Wednesday of the month the School Store Committee sets up a cart to sell school supplies and knick knacks during the students’ lunch period. The committee coordinates with the school secretary to order items to be sold and in handling the money from the purchases.

Spirit Wear

Families have the opportunity to purchase t-shirts, sweatshirts, shorts, jackets and bags with the school logo on them, in the fall and spring. The committee will coordinate and distribute to the families their purchases.

Staff Appreciation

A committee of parents plans a special week to thank our teachers and staff for all of their hard work and dedication. This includes decorating the school and a organizing a special breakfast, snack and luncheon during the week for our hardworking teachers and staff.

Yearbook

Each year a school yearbook is created and available to purchase. This committee plans, designs, sells and distributes the yearbook. A committee member attends the school events to take pictures, but all parents can contribute photos to the yearbook committee from school events throughout the year.
